It is funny how life smacks you in the face sometimes! I have been feeling a bit defeated lately for a variety of reasons. Mainly, I tend to be my harshest critic… aren’t we all!… and I set big goals for myself. I go full force at those goals yet tend to get a little discouraged if the progress isn’t taking place quite as I had planned! We aren’t even completely through the end of January of a new decade and I have been feeling and catching myself moving towards a mentality of defeat rather than looking at the wins and progress I am making… even if it isn’t at the pace I had hoped for. Sometime I want to shake myself!
And then life steps in and gives you a little perspective right when you need it. My moment came last night while I was at my CrossFit gym. My schedule has been off this week with my husband traveling. I live for my 5am workouts but I have had to shift to accommodate getting the kids up and ready for school. Yesterday my kiddos were in tow as I headed to the gym. I got them set up in hopes I could make it through my workout without too much fuss… thank you iPad!
The workout was tough and the evening crew was a different set of people I tend to see on the daily. Myself and another gentleman were completing the circuit together, alternating exercises every minute on the minute. A little over half-way through the workout, both of us exhausted with sweat dripping down our foreheads, he approached me with a fist bump. He spoke a few words that truly hit me this morning when I saw this photo- “Dang, you are a beast! You are killing this workout and are such an inspiration. Great job!”.
“You never know who’s watching. You could be encouraging, inspiring and motivating so many without even knowing. “
The universe knew I needed this without me knowing I needed it myself. Don’t get caught up in the should’s or where you “should be”. Sure the road is bumpy, it will likely have many setbacks, and may be incredibly frustrating at times. Trust the process and know the journey is the destination. Pause from time to time to appreciate and be grateful for how far you have come while embracing the continued work to be done. With the right mindset, willingness to push through and maintain that undeniable focus and commitment to overcome and persevere… you will achieve what your heart and mind knows you are capable of.
