What makes one decide to leave everything known to move to a far off island? ?
Upon our discussions with others about our impending adventure, one of the top questions asked is how did you all decide to do something like this? It turns out the decision was a culmination of many previous conversations over the years about the life we wanted to lead and the life we want to provide our young children. This hit a peak last summer when we were on our annual summer vacation in the Caribbean and were devastated to hear news of the US experiencing 3 mass shootings all in a span of a week and a half period… one taking place very close to my hometown. ??
We returned from this 2019 trip and quickly realized something was different. We would often return from a vacation with lofty thoughts of someday moving to an island. Over time as we settled back into our normal day-to-day routines those thoughts would gradually fade and settle back into a someday goal. Yet this time those thoughts didn’t fade and instead grew increasingly stronger and stronger forcing us to look deeper into them and ultimately deciding there was no way we couldn’t act on them. ‼️
I was clearing out space on my hard drive and came across various reflections during that period of time. We started documenting our thoughts, fears, dreams and daily routines during this time as a way to capture this period in our lives and be able to look back on years from now. ?
